La Terepeuta/ The Therapist

Hola!

I’m Jamie,

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Utah and California, founder of Colibrí Counseling Center, LLC, a Licensed Professional Educator, and former School Social Worker.

I’m also bilingual in Spanish and English.

I grew up in Utah and spent over a decade living in Southern California, where I attended college and earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California, with an emphasis on Children, Youth, and Families. I’m a proud Millennial Latina and first-generation Mexican-American.

My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by my own experiences with intergenerational trauma and mental health challenges as a child and teen, as well as a passion for helping others from a young age. I have a deep understanding of the complexities of navigating life in marginalized communities and strive to create a safe, welcoming space for healing. I will always be human first, therapist and social worker second.

I bring both lived experience and over nine years of clinical expertise in K–12 school-based mental health. I’ve supported children, teens, and families in Southern California and Salt Lake County, Utah. My background also includes youth gang prevention and criminal justice work. I provide trauma-informed therapy for all, with a focus on serving BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ youth, and Spanish-speaking communities. In addition, I’ve spent decades advocating to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

In my culture, the colibrí is a powerful symbol of healing and resilience. It reminds us of the strength we each carry within. At Colibrí Counseling Center, my mission is to empower individuals and families to heal—without shame. I want you to feel seen, heard, and embraced for who you are. I’m deeply committed to providing inclusive, culturally sensitive, gender-affirming, and linguistically responsive care.

At Colibrí Counseling Center, everyone is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. I look forward to walking alongside you in your healing journey.
